Blaye

Côtes de Bordeaux

The Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation is located 40 minutes north of Bordeaux and home to 400 winegrowers and nearly 15,000 acres of land. Estates have often been in the same family for several generations and growers are passionate about passing on the values they hold dear: conviviality, authenticity and quality. Overlooking the Gironde Estuary, the Blaye vineyards are mostly on the hillsides. This is why the appellation is called Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux: Côtes refers to the hills. The area comprises rich and varied terroirs where wines can reveal their true potential.

WINE FLAVOUR PROFILE

The Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation’s white wines are mostly made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes and have citrus or exotic fruit aromas with a freshness that stands out. Sémillon and Muscadelle grapes can also feature in its white wines, helping to make them rounded.

GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION

To the west of the appellation around the town of Blaye, the mainly clay-limestone soil allows Merlot grapes to unleash their flavour potential. In the north, the soil is sandy and gravelly, ideal for developing subtle Sauvignon Blanc flavours. In the south-east, there is a wide range of soils, allowing every grape variety to flourish in the terroir to which it's best suited.
